Why Fine Art for Kids?
We are founders of children's private art programs, and artists ourselves. Through teaching the discipline of classical realistic drawing and painting skills, for over 30 years, we have watched little faces light up as they begin to learn to "see" . We have watched hyperactive children become calm, heard children struggling in school report better focus, and noticed troubled children appear more fulfilled. We have also heard from countless grateful adults who report having benefitted in myriad ways from our instruction in their childhood. Our restless little painters blossom into confident, thoughtful, well-rounded, enlightened adults. It seems to us that children who can't make it to a studio deserve these life-changing experiences just as much as those who attend our private classes. In fact, they may benefit from it even more. Classical drawing practice provides not only the opportunity for a uniquely therapeutic sort of focus, it can open doors to future creative endeavors.
Pablo Picasso said, "Every child is an artist..." Somewhere around junior high, those who desire to draw and paint, but lack concrete skills that allow them to, as one child said, "flex their art muscles" will tend to lose confidence and stop trying. Some people have a deep desire to create. We provide both the fundamental tools needed to make art from observation, as well as the understanding, through hands-on experience, that drawing skills are not just natural gifts for a lucky few. The power to draw and paint belongs to anyone who will study with persistence.
There is nothing better than watching a child walk into art class with head held high, bounce in their step, knowing that they possess a seemingly magic skill, that no one can ever take away. It stands to reason that energetic people, armed with the tools to make their creative dreams a reality, are more likely make choices related to creation, rather than destruction.
